I have been made aware that Robert Cox of the Media Bloggers Association is planning to arrange a seat at the Libby trial for one of his bloggers - Lance Dutson of HTTP://mainewebreport.com Mr Dutson owns the now understandably client-less web company - "Maine Coast Design". He has ingratiated himself with Bob Cox by offering his services for free, and Mr Cox experienced his 15 minutes of fame while rising to the defense of Dutson - who was (accidentally) sued by Maine's ad agency. Cox admits that Dutson was his "Cause Celèbre", and it would seem that nothing has changed. I have been following Mr Dutson's blog for some time, and have come to learn that most or all of his accusations are brazenly untrue .... untruths about which he has repeatedly been made aware. He has even admitted to knowing that some are inaccurate, but these admissions eventually disappear... and off he goes again, on another rant. Lance Dutson came out of the gate swinging, and has consistently and pugilistically ignored any invitation to reasonable discourse. Yet Robert Cox informs me that he has never even read Dutson's blog. I find this, if true, to be an act of extreme negligience. If you did read Dutson's blog, you would see that the headlines are never corroborated by fact, but rather, link only to more of his own accusations, or even to documents which actually CONTRADICT these accusations. Apparently, people only read the headlines, and nothing else. And they believe them. Dutson appears to get the most gratification out of making searingly vicious personal attacks on total strangers whom he somehow perceives as enemies. And this list grows longer every day. If anyone disagrees with him in a comment, he turns his hatred on that commenter, with even more vicious lies about him/her. Or he deletes the comment entirely. His behavior is that of a web troll, and nothing more. I find it unfathomable that anyone would assign a seat at the Libby trial, and its resultant journalistic credibility, to someone without ever having checked his credentials. Web trolls should be eliminated - not elevated.

Cam, thanks for the ego boost!!  I lived in France for a while so I know how those keyboards can be - not sure I ever really got used to them!

Sorry for the writing quality in my comment (combo of being in a rush and trying to work off a French keyboard). That comment was more directed at someone else's response to your post - however, I may have misinterpreted the tone of his comment - so apologies if that's the case. In any case, you do a wonderful job on your blog and I read it regularly. Keep thinking outside the box and Keep up the fantastic work. - Cam

head shaking and eyes rolling. i don't believe an ex-patriot should even have a right to an opinion on the United States and its' practices. but, that is just my opinion. iran would have the public believe the worst no matter what. we currently occupy iraq. we are currently at war in iraq. we invaded a building in iraq. not iran. i consider myself to be a moderate. i have no training or education in politics. scarily, however, i am being pushed to the conservative side by this extremely liberal thinking. we are not experts on war tactics. we need to let the people who are, run this war. our soldiers need people like you to stop trying to castrate our government and our troops if we are going to make a good difference. this constant bashing of Bush (I am not a big fan either) reduces our appearance of strength, which weakens our country and will reduce us to nothing. Oh, that's right, you left, you don't care.
  • Bush invaded Iran last night   10 years 51 weeks ago
Yes I saw that on the web this morning. This asshole will stop at nothing to get Americans killed all over the world. Lawrence O'Donnell had an interesting point on the "surge",AKA escalation. If Bush puts 17,000 troops in Baghdad, unless these guys don't sleep or eat, only 5,000 are available at any one time. What the hell will an additional 5,000 troops do that 25,000 or 50,000 couldn't do? Answer:Nothing!!!!!!! Why should we let Bush continue to fail? And fail he will, since that waht Bush does best, fail. More Bush failures=more dead Americans.

Cam, couldn't agree more. I posted this as one more example for the dungheap of civil rights abuses stemming from reactionary excess. The fact that this latest spate was directed against "western" states is merely a detail and not the story itself.

Does it matter whose rights are being violated and what the tax burden is? Shouldn’t the larger point simply be that rights at large are being violated - not just privacy rights, but human rights - whether Hispanic, Middle Eastern, North American, African, European, etc.? Security should be amped up - WITHIN the confines of the law. These standards SHOULD include the ..:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />UK – along with Germany, Canada, France and every other country in the world and the standards should be legal and uniform across the board. Correct me if I am wrong, but I get the sense that the above comment implies that this is all ok, as long as it isn’t happening to Brits. What I fins troubling is that ugly, fucked-uped attitudes like that are quite common these days...:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> FYI to the author of the comment above: Richard Reed, the attempted shoe bomber, was British born - hence amped up security directed at western powers like Britain, France, Canada or others is not unjustified or unwarranted - the violation of civil rights however is, i.e. the recent Marar Arrar case. . Look it up if you don’t know what I’m referring to. Privacy is the LEAST of the civil rights abuses taking place

Yes I am saddened by the passing of Joe Barbera. I grew up watching all the classic and not so classic HB stuff as a kid and well into my adulthood. I still love their stuff, especially the action-adventure stuff. Please go to my blog and read what I had to say about his passing. :(

Venomous? Hateful? Not hardly. Being honest used to be a good thing. I know people who are homo and dont go around beating them up.
Violence is not only a matter of the physical. Your particular brand of violence falls under the emotional/spiritual category. It is the same brand of violence committed by passive bigots in the 1950s deep south. MLK wrote his Letter from a Birmingham Jail not to those who were turning the firehoses on blacks, but to his fellow clergyman who were counseling restraint and acceptance to those who were experiencing discrimination and oppression.
BUT if the movement suddenly shifted to "EMBRACE" adultery, pedophilia, being a thief and lying,I would be there just as loudly saying it is wrong!
I would like to assume by "movement" you are referring to gay rights activists, though I get the feeling you are referring to homosexuals as a single unit instead. This is a tragic error in reasoning, as I am sure you would not like me to lump yourself and Bush in the same category even though you are both Christians. But back to the point, I challenge you to produce a single individual or group who is championing the rights of adulterers, pedophelia, stealing, or lying (not sure how the last two have even a single connection to this discussion).
You cannot throw the blanket of morals away just because it feels good and makes you happy. There are absolute rights and wrongs. That lifestyle is against the LAWS of GOD "and" The Laws of NATURE!
Well, this is a legitimate point of contention, isn't it? You feel as though you have a monopoly on morality based on, in my opinion, a tragically flawed and decontextualized reading of the bible. Whereas I feel that there is nothing inherent in homosexuality that violates the laws of God. As for the laws of nature, there are plenty of examples that contradict this argument in sexual terms. Lust is animalistic and even housepets will hump anything they can wrap their paws around. In terms of Love, this is a strictly human construct, so homosexulity, like heterosexuality, is unique to the human experience and therefore has no context exterior to it from which to draw conclusions.
Why should that be taught to young and impressionable kids? It would be one thing if they were struggling with it, but they are embracing it and teaching our kids to do the same!
If sexuality was something that could be taught, then there would be no homosexuals. Think about it. All children are born to a pairing of male/female, so where would existing homosexuals have "learned" their behavior? Not to mention that there appears no causal relationship amongst children raised in homosexual households.
I cannot stand there and say NOTHING! People like you may call it hateful, I call it honest. ...
I'm not trying to infringe on your free speech. In fact, I hope I've made it clear that I am trying to engage you on an intellectual level, attacking your ideas and not you personally. But I think you missed the point of my last post - your words are being perceived as offensive not because of the specific word you're choosing, but because your intent is to cause offense. When someone who clearly despises homosexuality as much as you do, then that person will be hard-pressed to find phraseology that won't be deemed offensive. This is your cross to bear - just as the bigots in the 1950s had to go on television to defend segregation, you will have to also prepare to weather attacks from the more open, inviting, and inclusive elements of society. I hold no illusions that I am going to change your mind and I will continue to love and respect you even when we disagree so strongly. But there will come a day (a generation or two from now) when homophobes will be regarded with the same contempt we now hold for racial bigotry - and then you will have to endure explaining to your children and grandchildren why you hold the opinions that you do.

I cannot stand there and say NOTHING! People like you may call it hateful, I call it honest. And for the record the term of being offended is real old. Everybody is offensive to somebody at some point, and life itself is offensive, they used to have a saying for that... "Sticks and Stones....." I find their wanting to make their lifestyle normal OFFENSIVE... But I am NOT storming the halls of the supreme court. You say to find a less "offensive" label... Like what? Every time I am told this or that is offensive...Even the term homosexual has been called offensive.....People need to stop changing the meaning of words and accept them as they are...."It all depends on what the definition of the word is , "IS" was klintons legacy, and seems to have carried over to every group out there. They are what they are. If I wanted to be offensive I would have called them what they were called when I was growing up..... it started with an "F" had 2 "G"'s in the middle and ended with a "T".

The quote from your site is "Saying it is against the Laws of GOD isn't enough for these people [sodomites], since they obviously don't swear any allegiance to GOD and it is doubtful they believe in the TRUE GOD." I have many friends from them LGBT community that both embrace and are embrace by the church.

Do you think that just because Sodomite is a biblical word that somehow it is less insulting and dehumanizing, particularly when you use it in an intentionally derogatory manner? As far as being wrong no matter what you say, this has so much less to do with the label you choose than with the dehumanizing venom behind your words. You're wrong because you're hateful towards an entire group of people, not because of the label you apply to them. If you were an earnest truth-seeker (rather than someone dangerously assuming they have a monopoly on the truth) than you would be more than forgiven for a slightly (though unintentionally) offensive label. Either way, I'm sure you realize that sodomite is far more insulting that homo or even queer, don't you?

Finally, you keep trying to hide behind McCollough's column as though that absolves you of your own intolerance and bigotry while also claiming to hold a monopoly on truth ("calling truth what it is"). Stop trying to have it both ways!

  • DeLay's got himself one of them blog things   11 years 4 weeks ago
The blog from the second link is actually an archival of the comments somebody saved and reposted (along with his mugshot photo). If you follow the first link you get the press release about his blog (part of the GAIN initiative) and another link to www.tomdelay.com which is where his blog is currently active. I considered that the archival might be faked as well, but finally decided it was unlikely. There are just so many comments with such variance in speaking style that it seems the author would have far better things to do with there time. Then again, there are a lot of people out there with a lot of time on their hands so anything is possible!

Sodomites,= From the land of Sodom and Gomorhhea. Book of Genesis chapter 13- on I never said they couldnt believe in GOD. No matter what I say I am wrong ( according to them, homo is wrong, queer is wrong, etc...) Dont label me right or left or hate filled or intolerant, I am a truth seeker and not p.c. I believe in calling the truth what it is - not the revisionsts new form of it. As for My comments they refered to Kevin Mccolloughs column.

I take it this is made up, it doesn't make much sense for Tom Delay to be writing a blog and if he was, he wouldn't be using his criminal photo.
