    No
They were able to take out a number of people equal to 1% of their objective. The right people? Well... There are reports on what fraction of the people in Abu Ghraib were clearly innocent of everything, and that number was close to 90%.

Glad you followed up on it.

10,000 for 22. I think I see a Mission Accomplished banner coming soon.

When are we going to stop this expensive insanity?

Truth is, it is making the US military look stupid and weak. The so-called militants can count too.

I think everyone in the world has gotten the joke but Americans.

So basically, with a 5 to 1 troop advantage aided by armored vehicles and air support, the most advanced military force in world history was able to take out somewhere in the neighborhood of one percent of their target.

I can only imagine what this does to troop morale.

Bush is risking all these lives.......for what?

a long time ago. We are exactly where they want us in Iraq. It's the rest of it that they didn't factor in. Unintended consequences like an electorate who caught on too soon. Now they are slowly twisting in the wind. Good for us. Fuck them. Peace

Ah, but don't they look glorious barreling across the desert! With a little hyperbole, great footage can be easily parlayed into victory on fox news. The conservative media knows that most people are too busy making ends meet to look below the surface.

Very insightful article. One big reason that the news people love to exaggerate the threat has more to do with economics than ideology. Stories that everything is under control and working properly rarely sell papers. They do the same thing with reporting the weather -- somehow the storm or the snowfall is never as bad as they predict.

  • STFU Ron Paul. STFU now!   10 years 35 weeks ago

    Hi

Most people that have politicized this tragedy say we need less guns. That there is "no need" for weapons to defend yourself against the government.

Of the people who should "STFU" it's people on the left side who immediately began clamoring for tighter (& constitutionally illegal) gun controls.

Frankly, Ron Paul is also known as "THE MAN". It's not nice to tell people to "STFU" just because they are better than you, know what they are talking about, and have a firm grasp on the issue. As stated, all he did was give his opinion when someone asked it. And you yell "STFU!!!!" because you are a rube and don't know what you are talking about.

If someone had a concealed weapon on them, they would have been able to defend themselves instead of being slaughtered like sheep. The innocents who would not break the law and carry means of protection were destroyed by a person who cared not for the law. By enacting ANY gun control you merely take the means of defense from the good and allow the wicked to operate in nearly complete freedom. Police? Ha! They are not our body guards. They come in after a crime has taken place and do detective work mostly. They arrest offenders. But they usually are not stopping offenders from committing offenses. You need to do that yourself. I wouldn't want to lay down and take it like those people did. Defend yourselves! You're going to die if you don't so at least try.

I found this looking for a big picture of Ron Paul on Google Images. I found the image "STFU RON PAUL!!!!" and so I had to see what this was. Ron Paul is no traitor, unlike the people he works with everyday. He is a great man and I hope he gets the nod. He could really turn this country from the brink.

No one is making a political issue out of it. It is ALREADY a political issue. It is in OUR faces and should be discussed while it's nice and raw. The fact it is raw makes no difference to me. In my opinion at least now, Middle America is dealing with the same baggage Americans in lower socio economic demographics in major cities deal with regularly - so perhaps now, while emotions are raw, people may start to give a shit about the issue at hand. Do you know how many kids I knew through programs I have run with under-served urban youth in NYC who died before their 18th mother fucking birthdays? 6!!!!! It I always the same - Americans either don't fucking care or they are gun nuts until their kids are gunned down and it hits close to home; THEIR homes. We live with this shit in major American cities like New York and Los Angeles on a daily basis - whether through drive by shootings, gang homicides or just daily gun related violence as a result of addiction and other social issues.

Why is it that a mass shooting where 10, 20 or 30 kids or young adults take bullets at the same tragedy more news worthy then 30 kids taking bullets in the South Bronx, East LA and South central over a week, every week - at thousands per year? I don't give two shits about their feelings. I choose to bring this up on behalf of the voices ignored because middle-upper class America can't relate, therefore doesn’t give two shits.

Also, If people want to vilify anyone from benefiting from this - go after the media - who make make a national headline off of the dean taking a shit or wiping his ass - and beats these stories to the point of serious overkill. The Media is profiting from it - not a politician who wants to use this, while its fresh, as a means to get a political point across.

Fuck feelings! We let these gun nuts rein havoc while they hide behind amendments that don't actually make specific reference to guns as their "right" while kids are getting gunned down in major American cities on a daily mother fucking basis and urban communities are screaming for gun control on deaf ears because middle America is so caught up in its own superficiality that it cant be bothered to give a shit about something they only see on TV. The US is the largest gun manufacture in the world and groups like the NRA are nothing more than gloried lobby groups for these private sector gun manufactures.

I also choose to politicize this issue - as I did the day of the shooting.

I think Chuck was referring to perhaps the 1930's, not the 0030's.  It does make you wonder what happened to rather suddenly see this difference in children/young adult's behavior.  These rather suddenly popped up in the 1990's.  If they happened before that, you never heard about them.  And I also think some progressive memes you find in public schools have contributed to this, but their hardly the causitive factor.

  • A Response to "Misogyny at DailyKos"   10 years 36 weeks ago

Francis, thanks for taking the time to respond!  As usual, I agree with virtually everything you say.  The rank and file at DailyKos are singularly obsessed with winning, and seem to exhibit little regard for anything else.  I'd even go a step further and say that their obsession lies with breaking their own dismal track record for endorsment (I forget who told me this, but I think only 4 out of 25 candidates they've supported have gotten into office).  This seems to explain why they lock on to a cadidate they feel has the best chance of winning which, in their own narrow, elitist viewpoint, is without fail another white male.

BTW, interesting - I wasn't aware Kos voted for Bush in '92.

  • A Response to "Misogyny at DailyKos"   10 years 36 weeks ago

Hi, thanks for reviewing my article, and for agreeing with many points.

You said, "I think it is fairly obvious that they are deeply unhappy, nay - angry, at the state of affairs over the last six years and are doing what they can to effect a reformation."

I agree with that but while about 70% of Democrats are seeking change that includes ending the 43-term white male monopoly of the presidency and vice presidency, too many people at DailyKos seem to want to change the status quo by electing the 44th all-white all-male president/vice-presidential ticket.

Sometimes they seem to have profound lack of imagination for people who call themselves "progressives." In a country where less than 35% of the populace is from the white-male demographic, all of the most popular presidential candidates there are white males, including some white males who have NEVER, EVER been elected to any office anywhere at all, like Wesley Clark. It follows that they have never run a successful political campaign on the national, state or even local level. And yet, for some reason (like white skin and a penis) they look like more probable candidates than women and Blacks who have won and been in the US Senate.

How many times have you heard someone at DailyKos propose a Democratic presidential ticket with even one woman anywhere on the ticket, as president or vice president. I'm not talking about hypotheticals, but I'm talking about someone saying, "I'm going to work for Ms. X? I donated to Ms. X. It's ironic that although 53% of America is women, the most "progressive" people in the country can't think of even one woman for whom they would actually act to mount a "Draft Pelosi" campaign, but the have "Draft Clark" and "Draft Gore" and "Draft . . . EVERY SINGLE DRAFT movement has a white male's name involved! Are white men so rare in politics that we need to draft them?

From what I can see, there is no liberal sense of justice at DailyKos. The South African Apartheid System wherein the white 25% of the population ruled South Africa while the Black 75% were excluded from political representation seems to be a formula with which most at DailyKos have no problem whatsoever. Their annual meeting is all white, their membership is virtually all white . . .

Meanwhile the supposedly status quo part of the Democratic Party is the part that wants to elect the first woman or Black person instead of perpetuating the 43-term white male monopoly of the presidency. In my article, Anger and Disgust at White Male Leadership Fuel Contributions and Polling of Clinton, Obama , I argue that most Democrats are so sick and tired of the status quo, including the 43-term white male monopoly of the presidency, that 70% of Democrats are saying they are going to vote for Clinton or Obama - someone other than the white male leadership status quo. At DailyKos, they want to change the status quo by reaffirming the white male minority monopoly of the presidency. As far as I'm concerned, DailyKos is the Republican wing of the Democratic Party. (Kos DID vote for Bush in 1992 afterall.)

Great blog. Yeah, everyone wants to go back to that golden age. Back to that ideal bygone era in which we find, as described by one writer: Cruelty as entertainment, human sacrifice to indulge superstition, slavery as a labor-saving device, conquest as the mission statement of government, genocide as a means of acquiring real estate, torture and mutilation as routine punishment, the death penalty for misdemeanors and differences of opinion, assassination as the mechanism of political succession, rape as the spoils of war, pogroms as outlets for frustration, homicide as the major form of conflict resolution....

If you go to http://pol.moveon.org/videovets/on_your_website.html you can find the code for the individual videos.  It should be just a matter of copying and pasting them onto your blog (use the 'embed video' code, and not the youtube links), though I know that myspace may be a bit tricky on this aspect (I've never tried it myself).  Wait, I just figured it out...below the myspace blog entry box, there is a checkbox that says 'view source'.  Check this and then you will be able to cut and paste the video code and it should work.  If you have problems, then send me a message and I will try to help.

Good luck and thanks for spreading the word - I think it's a really great project!Â
