I might have taken better photos than this today, but holy guacamole - I can't believe the subject! Growing up, my dad had a dead praying mantis preserved in formaldehyde, but I've never seen an actual living one before (have even heard people say they are endangered).
You can really get a sense of how big these ladies are with the depth of field I got between her head and tail.

I've seen two and both times t
I've seen two and both times they were on my car - in the Chicago area. Never thought I'd see one out here, but there they were, sitting on my car. Absolutely incredible insect...nice shot!
