This is my attempt at submitting something to the Week 5 theme (Bokeh). This is an old tree stump with a tight focus on the outer edge.
I like the spheres of color in the background, though am perplexed by what makes this happen since, with the human eye, these usually end up as lines. Anyone have a scientific explanation for this?
I might have taken better photos than this today, but holy guacamole - I can't believe the subject! Growing up, my dad had a dead praying mantis preserved in formaldehyde, but I've never seen an actual living one before (have even heard people say they are endangered).
You can really get a sense of how big these ladies are with the depth of field I got between her head and tail.
I love this photo. A big part is my pride in getting close enough (despite my diminutive zoom) to get the shot without getting the heebie-jeebies too badly. But mainly it's that look in the bee's eyes of like, "wtf u lookin' at?"
