This little guy was into the business of dying on my shower wall, so I grabbed a quick shot with the macro filter. Poor 'silly buzz' as my little girls calls them.
I might have taken better photos than this today, but holy guacamole - I can't believe the subject! Growing up, my dad had a dead praying mantis preserved in formaldehyde, but I've never seen an actual living one before (have even heard people say they are endangered).
You can really get a sense of how big these ladies are with the depth of field I got between her head and tail.
I love this photo. A big part is my pride in getting close enough (despite my diminutive zoom) to get the shot without getting the heebie-jeebies too badly. But mainly it's that look in the bee's eyes of like, "wtf u lookin' at?"

Although common conception says that Noah was told in the Book of Genesis to bring two of each animal onto his ark, the book actually contains differing passages about the number of animals he was told to bring; in Genesis 6:19, he is told to bring "two of all living creatures", while in Genesis 7:2 he is told to bring "seven pairs of every kind of clean animal […] and one pair of every kind of unclean animal" – although in some translations (e.g. the New King James Genesis ) this is rendered as seven animals, rather than seven pairs.
