For Sale: Slightly used U.S. infrastructure

More pieces of the U.S. infrastructure being sold to foreign companies:

Roads and bridges built by U.S. taxpayers are starting to be sold off, and so far foreign-owned companies are doing the buying.

On a single day in June, an Australian-Spanish partnership paid $3.8 billion to lease the Indiana Toll Road. An Australian company bought a 99-year lease on Virginia's Pocahontas Parkway, and Texas officials decided to let a Spanish-American partnership build and run a toll road from Austin to Seguin for 50 years.

Few people know that the tolls from the U.S. side of the tunnel between Detroit and Windsor, Canada, go to a subsidiary of an Australian company - which also owns a bridge in Alabama.

Coulter campaign fundraiser nets a fat $0

That’s gotta hurt!

You’re a Republican running for governor, it’s the last week of the 1st quarter of election year, and a famous right-wing pundit’s in town -- gotta milk that for all it’s worth, right?

If the pundit’s Ann Coulter, maybe not.

…

“We found out the hard way,” says former Beauprez for Gov campaign chief Steve Truebner, “that Ann Coulter is not a major draw for donors.”

Nary a one showed up, according to Truebner, leaving Ms. Coulter and Mrs. Beauprez -- the candidate himself was in D.C., working his day job -- to hobnob in the Paramount’s 2d-floor lobby with about a dozen earnest but penniless campaign volunteers, plus some KOA listeners who’d won free tickets to the Coulter show from the station and just happened to be in the vicinity.

Smiles were flashed, photos were taken, and cheese/crackers were eaten, just like at a real campaign event. The only things missing were the $1,000 checks.

Author? Fact-Checker? Editor? Printer?

Great catch from Wonkette:

Just about in the same editorial back-alley abortion with this one.

Breaking News: Bloggers = secret Nazi underground

Hat tip to AlterNet for catching this piece from Jason Horowitz.  In the vacuous cobwebbed depths of Horowitz’s head, the reason those vicious netroots are opposing Lieberman’s reelection is because they are all, in fact, Jew haters.  Yes, anti-Semites, every damn one of us.  Not a single day goes by that my thoughts for my people are not as dark as my Jew-hating heart.  I curse Lieberman and his horns (oh yes, they rest just beneath that thinning toupee) and his wicked faith.  In fact, after all the press left YearlyKos, I can personally verify that the lights went out, the hoods went on, and we all circle-jerked while Markos read passages from Mein Kampf.  Ahh, good times.

And, BTW, Steven Colbert is on our side.  May our glorious Aryan nation reign supreme.

Lazy Friday Link Vomit

FOX News reporters shot at in Iraq.  Time to reconsider whether the Iraq quagmire is a liberal media fabrication?  In other news, Iraqi security forces are now proudly in charge of a giant sand dune.

More on the continuing saga of America’s proud 30 year crusade against drugs and puppies.

Ahh, a shining pantheon: Jesus Christ, Martin Luther King, Jr., and … Ken Lay??  Excuse me, I need to get a sponge.  My brains are oozeing out of my ears.

Plame / Wilson sue!

So Plame finally decided to go ahead and sue the people who ruined her life and made the world a more dangerous place.  I have some hopes that a civil suit will prove more apt in allowing a fair verdict to come out.  After all, civil suits are not subject to the same rules of evidence that Fitz was beholden to in bringing criminal charges.  Just look at O.J.

Unfortunately, O.J.’s case was not wrapped up in the dirty laundry of the D.C. power elite.  I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find that her lawyers are unable to make a strong case when necessary disclosures are suddenly classified for national security.

I hear they served watermelon and sang a lot

Hat tip to DoubleSpeak for this little gem from the Post.

Robert C. Bobb, a D.C. official, recently attended an event for Scott Bolden. Hmm ... one pol visiting the campaign of another? Very interesting. Surely there's a story there somewhere. No? Well, the two men did happen to be black. Still no story, huh? Well, ok. How about running an article titled, "Maybe it was the free chicken ."

Pause for a moment and read that again.

Ready? Here we go.

What the ^&@!@#% were you stupid ^%&*$^*s thinking? Is the Post seriously just trying to channel Strom Thurmond? Or was this just some dim-witted blunder that managed to slip through the author, the fact-checkers, the editor, AND the printer without anyone catching the craptastic moronicy behind it?

GOP owns rights to dead soldiers?

After all these years of Bush/Rove using American victims as political props, the Right is suddenly frothing at the mouth over this video from the DSCC? As far as political ads go, it resides somewhere betwixt power and yawn. But every single moment is the truth – a truth that the GOP owns.

They have spent the last five years controlling all three branches of government and now they own it all. They own all the collateral damage in the Iraq war. They own the Katrina disaster. The own the fiscal irresponsibility. The own the political divisiveness and bile. And now that election time has come again, they are going to have to deal with it.

This isn’t just payback, it’s a reckoning. An awakening if you will. And all the negative campaigning in the world won’t cleanse the blood dripping from their fingers and fangs.
