Friday Dublin Pics

Seems like all the boggers have their own photo schtick these days. It occured to me upon my return that I am probably the only U.S. politics blogger living in Dublin and that some of you may be interested in seeing some snapshots from this wonderfully up-and-coming city. I'll try to make this a regular Friday thing and eventually organize them into a gallery of sorts.

Probably the most logical place to start would be Grafton street - the largest pedestrianized area in the city. Grafton can be a damned nightmare to walk along since it is covered year-round with artists, musicians, merchants, tourists, tourists, and tourists. My advice for those who deign to visit is to plot a straight line and walk without any regard for what is in your way. Trust me, they'll move.

As a special bonus, I submit to you this fabby piece of urban art, known as a "Dublin Bus Timetable." These remarkable little statues can be seen littering the tree-lined streets of Dublin practically all over the city. Legend has it that these pieces were once used to predict the arrival and departure of public transportation. Today, of course, they are merely used as decoration and to provide residents with the chance to have a good chuckle at the tourists who actually believe they will catch a bus at the advertised time.
