It's not so much technical (a bit of soldering is involved) but the guy in the video clearly has the hands of an elf and the eyes of a Swiss watch maker! I watched the video a few times before trying it and was fully prepared to lose the lens in the process! His vid was with a Canon lens also, so it wasn't a perfect match for my Nikon.
